Quick Answer
Press both buttons under the glass flaps, then press both outer buttons. The outer buttons stay pressed, so you do not need to activate them simultaneously. In We Were Here Tomorrow, PAT control room access starts with both players pulling their separate chains fully down together, then taking one lift cabin each.
How do you reach the PAT control room terminal?
Pull both control-room chains fully down together, wait for the lift doors, then ride down with one player in each cabin. This sequence belongs to Chapter 3's Exotic Matter Laboratory walkthrough and leads to the manual override in the Particle Accelerator Terminus.
If you are still approaching the control room through the office area, the lever landmarks include a blue platform and wall target, a red section, and a purple T junction near the spinning ladder. The spoken directions include “there's one on a blue platform and wall target.” and “And there's one at a purple T junction.” These are landmarks on the approach; once you reach the mirrored control room, your immediate task is the pair of chains beside the accelerator model.
The control room has matching floor and ceiling halves. The Goop Gun player starts on the floor, while the Hook Gun player starts overhead. Each half has its own console and chain. You cannot finish this part by pulling one chain and then walking to the other: both must be fully pulled at the same moment.
When you arrive by lift from Offices of Tomorrow, the cabin nearer the door turns upside down during the journey. Its rider reaches the ceiling half; the other rider reaches the floor half. Work from the half you arrive on.
How do the PAT control room chains and lift work?
Each player must hold their own chain fully down until both chains lock, then wait 27 seconds for the lift doors to open.
- Walk south along the long purple corridor. Cross the intersecting corridor and continue down the steps to the particle accelerator model.
- Stand at your console. The floor console and upside-down ceiling console sit directly opposite each other.
- Count down together over the walkie-talkie. Pull both chains all the way and keep holding them. You can pull by hand, and the Hook Gun can also pull a chain.
- Release only after both chains lock in place. Progress saves when they lock.
- Wait through the announcements. The blast doors unseal before the lift doors open.
- Return up the steps and head west at the crossing corridor. Enter separate cabins, one on each half, to start the lift.
A chain springs back as soon as you release it before the lock. Pulling in turns therefore leaves you with no lasting progress. Once the pair locks, however, the countdown continues without you holding the chains.
Your left and right are reversed relative to your partner. Facing the chains, the lift is on the floor player's right and the ceiling player's left. Give directions using the crossing corridor, steps and console instead.
Do not crowd into one lift cabin. The lift starts when one player stands in each cabin, so each of you can simply take the cabin on your own half.
What do you press at the PAT control room manual override?
Press the left and right buttons beneath the glass flaps first, then press both outer buttons to start the terminal.
The manual activation terminal has two glass flaps with one button beneath each. Two additional buttons sit outside the flaps, about four metres apart. Each covered button enables the outer button on its own side.
| Part | Function |
|---|---|
| Left covered button | Enables left outer button |
| Right covered button | Enables right outer button |
| Outer button | Closes its corresponding flap |
| Both outer buttons pressed | Starts the terminal |
- Press the button beneath the left glass flap.
- Press the button beneath the right glass flap. You can reverse these first two steps.
- Tell your partner which side is ready. A short call such as “left on” keeps the two sides clear.
- Press both outer buttons. Either outer button can go first.
The outer buttons remain down once pressed. Unlike the control-room chains, this button sequence does not require simultaneous inputs. You can finish one outer button and then move to the other.
Pressing an outer button before its covered button does nothing. If one side is unresponsive, press the button under that side's glass flap first. Completing only one side will not start the terminal.
When the terminal starts, its machinery moves and an alarm sounds. The room's caution sign points you toward the manual override sequence.
How do you finish the PAT control room sequence?
Pull the terminal's two-handled chain fully together to activate the particle accelerator and unlock Ensnared Potential.
Both players take part in this final chain action. Keep it distinct from the earlier pair of separate chains: those opened the lift route, while this chain is on the manual activation terminal itself.
The checkpoint ends with a power surge and a white screen, after which you wake back in The R&D Headquarters. Continue from that return in the full walkthrough.
If you are looking for settings to enter at another console, go to Control Room Coordinates. This PAT sequence uses chains, lift cabins and the manual override buttons.
FAQ
Activate the covered buttons on both sides of the PAT terminal, then activate both outer buttons. The control-room route to that terminal starts with the paired chains and separate lift cabins.
No, the outer terminal buttons can be pressed in either order because they remain down. The earlier control-room chains do require both players to hold them fully pulled at the same time.
The lift doors open 27 seconds after both control-room chains lock. Hold the chains until they lock, wait for the doors, then put one player in each cabin.
Both players pull the manual activation terminal's two-handled chain all the way. This activates the particle accelerator, unlocks Ensnared Potential and ends the checkpoint.
