Quick Answer

Treat the fruit with its two potion colors, plant it in the past, then climb its grown form in the future. The plant is a ladder, not a harvest: you can't pick the grown fruit in the future, you climb it. The combinations are pepper: blue + green; cactus: red + green; eggplant: yellow + green; round fruit: yellow + red. In We Were Here Tomorrow’s Xenobotany chapter, the cactus and eggplant also need sunlight, and the grown plant gives you a route to the upper window.

How do you solve the Xenobotany plant puzzle?

Treat a fruit with the matching pair of potion colors, plant it in the past, and use its grown form in the future to reach the upper window. This puzzle is in the Xenobotany chapter. You need access to the fruit and treatment machine on one side, while your partner reads the plant diagrams and checks the growth on the other.

Your goal is to build a route upward. Getting a fruit to grow is only part of the solution: the resulting plant must become something your partner can jump onto. Look for the open window above the room before spending more time trying to harvest the future plant.

How do the Xenobotany plant diagrams work?

The diagrams connect each plant’s shape to two potion colors and its growth conditions. Describe the fruit’s shape to your partner so they can find the matching diagram, then have them read both colors back to you.

The two colored markers on a diagram indicate the potion pair. They can look like magnets holding the diagram in place, but their colors are the useful clue. The treatment machine requires two potions, so setting only one color does not complete the treatment.

We Were Here Tomorrow plant diagram board with yellow and green markers and a sun symbol

A plant diagram. The yellow and green markers are the potion pair, and the sun symbol means it needs light.

A sun symbol indicates a sunlight requirement. The cactus and eggplant need light; the pepper does not. Correct treatment produces a plant, and the right conditions plus time allow it to reach the larger growth stage on your partner’s side.

The two time periods are connected. Planting in the past changes what is growing in the future. Removing that plant in the past also removes its future growth, so coordinate before pulling out anything your partner is using.

What are the Xenobotany potion colors?

Use blue + green for the pepper, red + green for the cactus, yellow + green for the eggplant, and yellow + red for the round fruit. Match by shape when you and your partner describe the specimens.

Fruit shapePotion colors
Pepper-shapedBlue + green
Cactus-like, with rows of spinesRed + green
Eggplant-shapedYellow + green
Round or cylindricalYellow + red

Keep the light requirement separate from the color recipe. A correct pair does not replace the conditions the plant needs to grow.

Plant shapeSunlight requirement
Pepper-shapedNot needed
Cactus-likeRequired
Eggplant-shapedRequired
  1. Take a fruit from the plant.
  2. Set the nearby machine to the two colors for that fruit.
  3. Put the specimen through the treatment machine.
  4. Check the two colored tags on the treated specimen against your partner’s diagram.
  5. Plant it in the past and provide the required light.
  6. Ask your partner what has changed in the future.

We Were Here Tomorrow treated fruit sitting in a planter in the past

A treated fruit in the planter in the past. The fruit tray at the bottom shows what else you are carrying.

Avoid treating the same specimen again to force another growth stage. A player who tried applying blue + green a second time turned the specimen into waste. Use the plant’s growth conditions and the connection between past and future to progress.

How do you use the Xenobotany plant ladder to reach the first window?

Jump onto the grown plant in the future and use it as a platform to reach the upper opening. The first window is above you, so check upward once your partner has produced the larger plant.

  1. Have the player in the past plant the correctly treated specimen.
  2. Apply sunlight if that plant requires it.
  3. Have the future player check for the larger growth stage.
  4. Jump onto the grown plant, then move up toward the open window.
  5. Reach the next exchange point and swap roles to continue.

Keep communicating about the plant’s size. A visible flower or fruit does not by itself mean you have finished building the route. Your useful result is the growth you can climb.

Do not get stuck trying to collect the future fruit. A player could see the grown eggplant there but could not interact with it. For the plant ladder, focus on reaching the upper opening rather than picking the visible fruit.

How do you clear the plant blocking the doorway?

Have the player in the past remove the corresponding plant when you need to pass through the blocked doorway. Its future growth disappears when it is pulled out, and planting it again brings the obstruction back.

Tell your partner before removing it. The same connection that clears a doorway can also take away the growth they were about to climb. Decide whether you currently need the doorway open or the plant in place, then make that change together.

After reaching the upper opening and exchanging roles, continue with Xenobotany climate control access.
